WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Stage 13, LLC presents the Off Broadway premiere of Dan O'Brien's The Voyage of the Carcass, directed by Randy Baruh, and starring Tony-winner Dan Fogler.

When their Polar expedition goes awry, only three members of the doomed SS Carcass remain -- Bane Barrington, a buffoonish explorer; ship's Chaplain Kane, a rector in drag; and Israel, their mute (and Canadian) first mate. After 40 years trapped in the ice, will they make it home alive? But first, they'll take a five-minute break, explore themselves, their roles, and their "issues" as actors dealing with an artic blast all their own. Bill is a struggling mime; his wife Helen is an ad exec and erstwhile actress; Dan is a passive-aggressive puppet master (that is to say, the playwright).

Weaving Commedia Dell'arte with Theatre Verite, The Voyage of the Carcass is a hilarious play-within-a-play, an affectionately playful look at people's dreams, both failed and realized.

In the show's opening segment, set in a theater where confetti snow has been amassed, three characters are showing signs of cabin fever. Surrounded by Wilson Chin's calculatedly cluttered set, the hapless ones are Bane Barrington (Dan Fog[...]
