I recommend this play. Olympia Dukakis is GTRET in her role. The decor is beautifull. Go see and ignore negative reviews.
I saw this with the understudy Gordana Roshovich playing Flora and I was impressed by her performance. I did not see Dukakis but I did not relish seeing her in the role.
While it is still the prentious bore it was 48 years ago, I overlooked that because the production was wonderful. Director Michael Wilson has delivered a beautifully acted and designed production with Olympia Dukakis beyond great in the marathon sized title role. Static in the extreme, it is still worth seeing because of the productions excellences.
No one of Williams best plays, and unfortunately this production falls flat. Olympia Dukakis is unconvincing in the title role. Director Michael Wilson offers little to keep the play moving. Of the rest of the cast only Edward Hibbert seems to breath any life into the play. I saw at a preview so maybe things have tightened up along the way...but alas Dukakis was just the wrong choice.
