WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Following up on his essay "Captives" published in the November 9, 2009 issue of The New Yorker, Wright performs his newest piece, The Human Scale, about one of the most searing political conflicts of our day. Wright's last play, My Trip to Al-Qaeda, premiered at The New Yorker Festival in 2006 and then enjoyed a sold-out run at The Culture Project. My Trip to Al-Qaeda has been made into a documentary film, directed by Alex Gibney who won the 2008 Academy Award for Feature Documentary, which will premiere on HBO on September 7.

RE:Human Scale
This is a very moving and informative tale of the dreadful saga of the history of Gaza. Trying to be as fair and balanced as he can, Mr. Wright condenses in chronology the terrible actions of both sides which have brought us to what seems to be an intractable point in time. The Human Scale of the title balances the worth of the Israeli soldier who has been held hostage for 4 years against the mounting demands of Hamas. Mr Wright tells forcefully how there have been times when a settlment is within grasp and then it is cruelly snatched out of the hands of the parties. However harrowing some of the slide show which accompanies this is, it really is worthy of reminding ourselves what a dreadful evolution of the human condition has been rendered in this area in the names of religion, territory and dogma.
