WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Richard Greenberg's The House in Town, directed by Doug Hughes, completes the Mitzi Newhouse 2005-2006 season. The play takes a look at a marriage and is set in the early months of 1929 on New York City's 23rd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues, which was then known as Millionaire's Row. The production stars Jessica Hecht, Mark Harelik, Becky Ann Baker, Armand Schultz, and Dan Bittner.

In setting his semi-satisfying new play The House in Town in 1929, Richard Greenberg quickly sets up the expectation that financial loss will be the subject du jour. But by play's end -- which takes place a few months before the Crash decimated Wall Street -- the fortunes of its main characters, Sam and Amy Hammer (Mark Harelik and Jessica Hecht) are still intact. Yet, this middle-aged couple has suffered considerable losses -- of friendship, trust, and innocence -- with the ultimate loss just around the corner.
