WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Classic Stage Company presents The False Servant, by Pierre Marivaux. Lust, avarice, and a helathy dose of cross-dressing are all on fine display in this sly 18th century romp where a young girl dresses as a man to learn more about her husband to be. What she discovers bends everything from gender to our most cherished notions of love.
Additional Performances: Sunday at 3:00pm only on April 3rd, 17th, and May 1st

Depending on how Lion feels about continuing to musicalize investor-challenging Marivaux musicals, she might want to scope out CSC's newest Marivaux treatment. Artistic director Brian Kulick's canny mounting of The False Servant -- the French dramatist's play of greed, betrayal, and female brain-power -- emits its own strange verbal music.
Pierre Carlet de Chamblain de Marivaux (b. 1688-d. 1763) had a way with comedies of manners that was as florid as his full name. [...]
