WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Dressler scrambles to keep the basement scullery of an upscale eatery functioning, marshaling his rag-tag team with a stream of hilarious rhetoric and old-fashioned working class pride. His fellow wage slaves, the ancient Moss and the downwardly mobile Emmett, just can't seem to grasp his inspirational style. Playwright Morris Panych walks a razor's edge between comedy and tragedy chronicling the plight of men working in the lower depths of a high end restaurant.

59E59 Theaters is an Off-Broadway theater complex that consists of three theaters, Theater A (200 seats), Theater B (100 seats) and Theater C (50 seats).

WHAT ARE CRITICS SAYING?

Morris Panych's The Dishwashers, currently at 59E59 Theatre as part of the Americas Off Broadway festival, is an existential workplace comedy that is both wryly observed and darkly funny. Better still, the first-rate production, directed by Byam Stevens, sets the proper tone for the play's poker-faced absurdities.

Set entirely in the bleak basement of a high-end restaurant, with boxes of dishwashing detergent piled high on all sides, the play opens as new hire Emmett (Jay Stratton) learns the routine from Dressler (Tom Donoghue), a long-time employee who takes pride in his monotonous work to an absurd degree.
