Christmas Revels companies perform in 10 cities throughout the U.S., and each Revels company selects the country and time in history for the show's setting. This year, the New York Christmas Revels invites audiences to jump in a troika for a snowy ride with our hero through the Eastern European countryside. Based on the classic Russian folktale "The Fool of the World and the Flying Ship," we join an eager young man trying to win the hand of his true love, the Czar's daughter. To accomplish this, he must travel in his flying machine across the huge expanse of Eastern Europe and perform near-impossible tasks. Our hero's journey takes us through a dazzling display of winter solstice customs, traditional music, festive dances, and costumes of Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria.
