WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
The York Theatre Company presents the second production of its 31st season with the world premiere of TAKING A CHANCE ON LOVE, a new musical revue about the life and work of lyricist John Latouche, devised by Erik Haagensen. This two-act musical presents the work of one of America's most talented yet overlooked lyricists and tells the colorful and complex story of his life through his contemporaries with excerpts from Latouche's unpublished personal journals, letters and poetry. Mr. Latouche's death at 41, ended a life beset by contradictions; gifted yet obsessively self-destructive; openly gay yet married; a patriot who penned one of FDR's inaugural speeches yet blacklisted as a communist sympathizer.
