WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Summer Shorts 2 is an annual festival of new American short plays.

The Waters of March, by Leslie Lyles, directed by Billy Hopkins, starring Amy Irving

59E59 Theaters is an Off-Broadway theater complex that consists of three theaters, Theater A (200 seats), Theater B (100 seats) and Theater C (50 seats).
WHAT ARE CRITICS SAYING?
Collections of one-acts are almost always uneven, and Summer Shorts 2: Series A, playing 59E59 Theaters, is no exception. What's surprising is that the brief 30-minute first act features the better known artists of the evening presenting mediocre work, and the much longer second act has lesser known quantities showcasing far superior fare.
The program begins with Amy Irving delivering Leslie Lyles' monologue, The Waters of March, and occasionally singing snippets of Portugese songwriter Antonio Carlos Jobim's song of the same name. When it comes to Summer Shorts 2: Series B, now at the always-perking 59E59 Theatres, the best (if not necessarily practical) advice would be to skip the two first-act playlets, Keith Reddin's Our Time is Up and John Augustine's PeopleSpeak, in order to better savor the two works in the second act without a lingering sour taste. The Terrence McNally-Skip Kennon mini-musical Plaisirs d'Amour and Michael Domitrovich's On Island both take a sweetly wise look at love and marriage and hold out for, respectively, acceptance and hope.
