Synopsis

Once again the indie pop-rock band GrooveLily returns to The Zipper Factory for the holiday season to spread some holiday warmth on cold winter nights performing their critically acclaimed musical, Striking 12.

Combining pop-rock, musical comedy and old-fashioned uplift with a healthy dose of 21st-century skepticism, Striking 12 is the story of a Grumpy Guy who decides to avoid the hectic, loveless world on New Year's Eve, until he's visited by an incandescent salesgirl with the promise to chase away his winter doldrums.

The show is written by Brendan Milburn (book, music and lyrics), Rachel Sheinkin (Tony Award winner for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, book and lyrics) and Valerie Vigoda (book, music and lyrics). The score features songs such as "Last Day of the Year," "Give the Drummer Some," "Caution to the Wind" and "Screwed-Up People Make Great Art."

Striking 12 Merchandise

Subtitled "a rewired version of Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Match Girl," this clever and inventive concert-musical written by Brendan Milburn, Rachel Sheinkin & Valerie Vigoda features the acclaimed New York-based pop-folk-rock trio GrooveLily (Valerie Vigoda, Brendan Milburn and Gene Lewin). Combining honest old-fashioned uplift with a healthy dose of 21st-century skepticism, it tells the tale of an incandescent salesgirl whose holiday spirit can't be matched. Striking 12 was recorded live during performances at Symphony Space in New York City in September of 2004, and it comes with a full-color, 32-page CD booklet complete with lyrics, photos, and illustrations. So if you're a GrooveLily fan, or if you haven't had the fun of experiencing the sound that the Boston Globe labeled "smart, sassy, fiddle-friendly and pop-catchy," pick up a CD here and enjoy the unique, infectious spirit of Striking 12!
