Still Life
Still Life has much life to it.
by sightlines on Sunday, Oct 18th, 2009 at 7:18 pmI enjoyed STILL LIFE thoroughly. A play by a clever young playwright hitting his stride, if not yet at full speed. No wonder I liked it: my wife lost her dad 2 months ago & this play is written by a writer who had lost his dad and needed to find a purpose in life so he wrote about a photographer who lost her dad & she has to find a purpose in life. She does, as he had: they make art. Clever writing, serious concerns and funny moments. Well staged and well acted. Kudos all around.
STILL LIFE, an excellent play, superbly cast...

I have seen many very good plays this past week; SUPERIOR DONUTS, A STEADY RAIN, THE ROYAL FAMILY, OOHRAH, and STILL LIFE ranks right up there with them.
"Still Life"
by OV2971141 on Sunday, Sep 20th, 2009 at 11:14 amI never log onto sites like this to complain about shows; I think its petty. But this show made me truly angry. The acting is straight-up shameful--not a single organic moment, no listening or responding--it was like watching a line-through. The writer may be a "stunning new voice," but the only thing that stunned me was his reliance on cheap conventions--a character recounting a dream, a pointless dinner party argument--to air his ideas about modern angst and gender roles. This is neither imaginative nor interesting, and it says nothing new. Had I paid to see this play, I would have demanded my money back. It was TERRIBLE. Shame on everyone involved, except the sound and lighting designers. Also, the purses were empty.

The acting is absolutely shameful--not a single real moment, no listening or responding: it was like watching a line-through. If I had paid to attend this show, I would have demanded my money back. The writing is and immature: the author uses cheap conventions such as a character recounting a dream and a dinner party argument to get across his ideas about modern angst and gender roles. This is neither imaginative nor interesting, and he says nothing new. Also, the lead actress has an absolute speech impediment. Horrible.
