WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Michael Smuin, the celebrated Tony-award-winning choreographer brings the rapturous Smuin Ballet for one week of performances at The Joyce Theater. The dynamic programming features three major New York debuts ranging from the theatrical to the classically sublime. Following on the heels of St. Louis Woman - A Blues Ballet at Lincoln Center last summer and Dancin' With Gershwin at The Joyce Theater, Michael Smuin returns to New York with the premiere of Come Dance Me A Song, a passionate, playful ballet set to pop superstar Elton John's classic ballads including "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," "Candle in the Wind," "Tiny Dancer," and many other mega hits. With Smuin's trademark choreographic virtuosity, the ballet features a myriad of classically influenced dance styles, with dancers performing to original recordings. Various critics hailed Come Dance Me a Song as "innovative choreography" and great "staging talent". To round out the evening, Smuin Ballet performs Tango Palace, a seductive fantasy of possession and power, jealousy, love and loss. Les Noces, a colorful ballet influenced by traditional Russian folk art and set to a renowned percussive score by Stravinsky, will sure to be an audience favorite.
