WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

TheatreworksUSA presents a new production of the young audience version of the Broadway musical Seussical, written by Lynn Ahrens (lyrics and book) and Stephen Flaherty (music and book). Marcia Milgrom directs and choreographs.

Co-conceived by Ahrens, Flaherty and Eric Idle, this production of Seussical, created especially for young audiences, is based on the numerous works of the beloved children's author Theodore Geisel, known to the world as Dr. Seuss.

Each day, a limited number of free tickets will be made available to individuals at the Lucille Lortel Theatre on a first-come, first-served
basis. Distribution will begin one hour prior to each performance, with a limit of four (4) tickets per person.

ABSOLUTELY NO BABIES IN ARMS OR CHILDREN IN STROLLERS WILL BE ADMITTED.

This theater is named for the Off-Broadway producer and philanthropist, Lucille Lortel. This space is considered one of the best Off-Broadway theaters in New York. It often houses shows that eventually move on to Broadway.

WHAT ARE CRITICS SAYING?

When Lynn Ahrens, Stephen Flaherty and Eric Idle were preparing
Seussical for its Broadway opening in 2000, they let themselves be convinced that the beloved Dr. Seuss material had to be darkened if adults were expected to enjoy the musical at all. The results were disastrous -- no matter which supposed marquee name was commandeered to play the narrating Cat in the Hat. Now, the enterprise has been "youthenized" for TheatreworksUSA, which specializes in young people's theater, but the hoped-for improvements haven't paid off in more than a few superficial ways.
