WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
After a much lauded run at 59e59 Theaters, The Riot Group's Pugilist Specialist, written by Adriano Shaplin, transfers to 45 Below.
Four highly-trained American marines are assigned the task of eliminating a troublesome Middle Eastern leader. This psychological thriller unfolds in a series of field recordings, detailing the planning, execution and mishandling of modern political assassination, and exploring the mentalities of people who give - and receive - orders.

It's understandable that someone could watch the first minutes of Adriano Shaplin's Pugilist Specialist and suspect that the eventually incendiary play is a stylized send-up of the long-running TV series Mission: Impossible. Three people in camouflage trousers and brown t-shirts perch on a bench and start discussing an impending special forces assignment. Sitting with their hands resting on their thighs, Lieutenants Studdard (Drew Friedman), Freud (playwright Shaplin), and Stein (Stephanie Viola) speak in flat, clipped tones.
