Plays is Gertrude Stein's whimsical, irreverent and rarely seen lecture on theater, a hidden gem of theatricality and wit that only Stein could have delivered until David Greenspan came along. It explores two ideas central to her thinking: the challenge of
time" and the notion of "landscape" in plays. One of several lectures Stein given throughout her celebrated 1934 lecture tour across the United States, Plays traces her development as a playwright and makes account of a lifelong investigation into the nature of theater and its audience. There is no more fitting performer to restore this remarkable piece to the public's imagination than David Greenspan, whose own work is deeply influenced by her artistry.
