WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
John Ellison Conlee, Katie Finneran, Logan Marshall-Green and Denis O'Hare star in the world premiere of Greg Kotis's new comedy Pig Farm, directed by John Rando.
Under a pot-bellied sky on a struggling pig farm somewhere in America, Tom, Tina and their hired hand Tim fight to hold onto everything they have - namely, a herd of fifteen thousand restless pigs. Dumping sludge into the river has driven Tom to drink, and Tim seems to have caught Tina's eye, but when Teddy, an officer of the Environmental Protection Agency arrives to inspect the operation, life on the farm explodes, implodes, then explodes again. Not literally, of course, but... you get the idea. From the Tony Award winning team behind Urinetown, playwright Greg Kotis and director John Rando bring this absurdist, darkly comic exploration of pigs, sustainable agriculture, the federal government, mythic portrayals of American hero-types... and pigs to the Roundabout stage. This production is presented in collaboration with the Old Globe, San Diego, CA.

Greg Kotis' Pig Farm could have made a very funny 30-minute sketch, or at least an amusing one-act. Unfortunately, it's been stretched out to just over two hours, including intermission. While this comic misfire provokes some laughter, it wears out its welcome as the evening wears on.
The plot centers around pig farmer Tom (John Ellison Conlee) and his wife Tina (Katie Finneran), whose troubled marriage is near the breaking point. She desperately wants a baby, while he's more concerned with the imminent arrival of an Environmental Protection Agency inspector. Tina hooks up with the couple's young hired hand Tim (Logan Marshall-Green), who's there as part of a Juvenile Detention Center work r[...]
