Pastoralia is novelist George Saunders's darkly comic story of Ed and Janet, employees at a historically-themed amusement park. Their live-in job is to simulate the day-to-day life of early humans in a display cave dwelling. The park, suffering from a severe lack of attendance and as a result Ed and Janet face the threat of layoffs. In this hilarious, heartbreaking tale Ed and Janet are put to the test and ultimately must make a choice between their families' livelihoods and their own dignity.
