WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
City Center Encores presents Pardon My English, featuring music and lyrics by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin, book by Herbert Fields, and Morrie Ryskind.
The show is an all-but-forgotten example of early '30s madcap musical satire that tells the story of a young Englishman who falls in love with the daughter of the Dresden police commissioner. Unseen on the New York stage for 70 years, Pardon My English features such classic Gershwin tunes as "Isn't It a Pity," "My Cousin From Milwaukee," and "The Lorelei."
Gary Griffin directs, with choreography by Rob Ashford, with musical direction by Rob Fisher. Featured in the cast: Brian D'Arcy James, Rob Bartlett, Emily Skinner, Jennifer Laura Thompson, Don Stephenson, Felicia Finley, Tom Alan Robbins, Kevin Carolan, and Lee Zarrett.
