WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

A great love corroded by deception and unbridled jealousy lies at the heart of Shakespeare's Othello. Outraged at losing a promotion to the fervently loyal Cassio, the villainous Iago convinces Othello that Desdemona has betrayed him with his trusted lieutenant. Possessed by insecurity and doubt, the Moor falls measurably into Iago's snare, a catastrophic turn of events that leads to rampant paranoia and, ultimately, murder. Known for its original approach to European classics, particularly Shakespeare, London's Cheek by Jowl marks its long-awaited return to BAM with a strikingly resonant, actor-driven production that adheres to the original text while expanding on the inherent drama of Shakespeare's words. Declan Donnellan directs.
