WHAT ARE CRITICS SAYING?

Elizabeth Meriwether's Oliver Parker!, which stageFARM is currently producing at the Cherry Lane Theatre, brings to mind Joe Orton's plays as it finds comedy in some of the darkest corners of our contemporary world. It's a bracing, yet only fitfully satisfying, black comedy that's enhanced immeasurably by four remarkably daring performances.

The action unfolds in the filthy apartment (keenly designed by Lauren Halpern) belonging to Jasper (John Larroquette), an aging and bitter alcoholic with anger issues. He's supported by Oliver (Michael Zegen), a 17-year-old with scads of family money at his disposal, raging hormones, and what appears to be a severe case of ADHD. The pair's codependen[...]

Oliver Parker! review
At age 9, Oliver Parker Michael Zegen was ?diddled? by their family driver Jasper 5-time Emmy winner John Larroquette. Now 17, he struggles with his identity crisis by desperately wanting to get laid by a woman. Born privileged, Oliver keeps Jasper, in a ghastly apartment Set Design courtesy of Lauren Halpern, as his best friend by paying for everything ? rent, food, etc. Jasper, a divorced, alcoholic and ill man, hangs around trying to correct the mistake of ruining Oliver?s life. Middle-aged New York State Sen. Willa Cross rivetingly carried out by Johanna Day a family friend of the Parker?s is caught in the center of Oliver?s quest to having sexual intercourse with a woman. Cross was drawn to Oliver?s family connection to pharmaceuticals to feed her drug-crazed depression due to the recent tragic loss of her daughter Julie who was raped, beaten and left for dead. Politics-ambition driven aid to Sen. Cross, Agnes flawlessly performed by the encrusted Monica Raymund, protects Willa?s mental being to secure reelection. Until she, too, was confronted by her own childhood demons. This Off-Broadway dark comedy play written by Elizabeth Meriwether is like a book you can?t put down. Evan Cabnet directs.

RE:jogary
I thought this play was very deep. It really makes you stop and thinking how many people are hurting. It was serious and funny. All the actor were wonderful. John larroquette was brilliant. I would recommend this play, but go with open mind.
