WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The Drama Desk nominated NEWSical the Musical is back lampooning current events, headlines, newsmakers, celebrities, and politicians. With songs and material being updated on a regular basis, composer-lyricist Rick Crom's topical musical comedy is an ever-evolving mockery of all the news that is fit to spoof!

WHAT ARE CRITICS SAYING?

For a musical featuring ripped from the headlines stories, NEWSical the Musical, now at the 47th Street Theater, could use a bit more bite. Featuring book, music, and lyrics by Rick Crom, the gently satiric topical revue parodies various celebrities and politicians, but mostly in a superficial manner.

The closest the show gets to a substantial critique is in the number "Yes We Can," which skewers President Obama's backpedaling on a number of major issues by answering his campaign slogan (and song refrain) "Yes we can" with statements such as, "But not just yet." There are also spoofs of Hillary Clinton, Sarah Palin, John McCain, Sonia Sotomayor, Nancy Pelosi, and more, but the routines eith[...]

hilarious!
Wow, I was so shocked by reading the other review that I decided to post my own even though I hardly ever post reviews! My friends and I bought tickets at tkts for NEWSICAL. We didnt know much about it but were SO glad we went. It was a spoof sort of like Jon Stewart or SNL. The entire audience laughed uproriously the whole way through and we all agreed it was the funniest show we had seen in a long time. My friend still calls me up and sings the songs to me on my voicemail.to crack me up. I was so surprised to see such a bad review of it! Though I agree it is not for children, definitely a PG-13 experience.

RE:Horrible
DO NOT SEE THIS SHOW! It is sad that a musical production is so awful that they stoop to preying on children. I was on line at TXTS to buy Mary Poppins for my two young daughters and a man posing as a txts employee talked me into taking my kids to Newsical. He said it was the latest smash hit for kids. He told me Dora was in it and a lot of other kid characters. I bought the tickets, but then felt apprehensive so we walked over to the theare and the man at the box office confirmed that this was a great "family musical." I should have known when the the first song was "Theyre full of Sh**" this was not a family event. Yes Snow white is in the show but as a news story implying she has been gang raped by 7 small men. The language and stale jokes just got filthier and my kids didnt understand any of it thank god. How was the show for adults? i can tell you no one was laughing except the two box office employees they plant in the audience. We left after 30 horrible minutes but couldnt get our money back. Ive been going to Broadway shows since i was 6, probably seen 100 shows, but never anything this bad. I also consider myself a savvy New Yorker but i really got scammed on this one. I will say that the four actors were fairly good singers and were trying very hard, but their material was so unfunny it was embarassing. i repeat...DONT SEE THIS SHOW. ITS A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. ? Allison, North Bergen
