WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The Flea presents the return of Mrs. Farnsworth, by A.R. Gurney, starring Sigourney Weaver, Gerry Bamman, and Danny Burstein.

Margery Farnsworth, Connecticut society wife and mother, and very unlikely rabble-rouser, bursts like a charmingly absent-minded whirlwind into her New School writing course. Seriously disappointed with the current administration, she is consumed with the idea of penning a tell-all roman a clef about her youthful affair with a Yale undergraduate who may (or may not) have become the most powerful man in the world. Instructor Gordon Bell is all too happy to help Mrs. Farnsworth get the truth out. In swoops Mrs. F's protective husband (who may or may not be a Republican). With beguiling charm and tender passion for his wife, Mr. Farnsworth presents quite a different view of their collective history and politics.

Appropriate for audience 16+

Exceptions to Schedule: Added Tuesday performances Oct. 19 & 26 at 7pm; No performances Thursday, Oct. 21-Saturday, Oct. 23.

It began previews during the Democratic National Convention in Boston and will play through the Republican National Convention in New York, although its doubtful that delegates to the RNC will wander down to the Flea Theatre to catch the production.

A major selling point of the play in its earlier engagement was the star power of Sigourney Weaver as Mrs. Farnsworth and John Lithgow as her husband. Those[...]

"It's a Watergate world these days," says a character in A.R. Gurney's hilarious and timely new play Mrs. Farnsworth. Political scandal, cover-ups, and secrets are at the heart of this comedy, which stars Sigourney Weaver (in the title role) along with veteran actors John Lithgow and Danny Burstein. Gurney is in top form here, treating his political subject with the attention to character nuance and the comical observance of upper-class WASP mannerisms that made many of his earlier works so popular.

Mrs. Farnsworth is a self-described "rich Democrat" hailing from New Canaan, Connecticut. While liberal in her political outlook, she also abides by the rules set forth by her beloved grandmothe[...]
