WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Mother Load is a hilarious exposé of the cutthroat world of competitive parenting. Moms everywhere feel the pressure to be perfect, but in New York City, that pressure is turned up to 11. Nothing could have prepared Amy Wilson for the high-pressure environment of Manhattan motherhood, where a toddler's birthday party must be catered, a stroller costs eight hundred dollars, and nursery school applications require thoughtful essay writing. From prenatal yoga to preschool interviews, actress and writer Wilson struggles to throw off the "Mother Load" of unrealistic expectations, ignore the competitive "sanctimommies" lurking in every playgroup, and somehow find the time to enjoy her kids.

Once upon a time, one-person shows were either spectacular exhibitions of acting prowess or mesmerizing works of artful writing coupled with a keen actors' sense of style. Today, in order to get a one-person show mounted these days, it seems sufficient only to merely identify a target audience and write something that speaks to that group of people.
Mother Load, a solo narrative written and performed by Amy Wilson at The Sage Theater, ultimately wants to reassure its target audience -- young mothers -- that they are not failures if they don't do everything under the sun for their children.
