WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Jean Cocteau Repertory begins its 35th Anniversary Season with a world premiere translation by Marc Blitzstein of Bertolt Brecht's play with music, Mother Courage. David Fuller directs.
As recent headlines from the Middle East have shown, civilians often bear the brunt of wartime violence as they try to scratch out a living and attempt to get through each day without harm to themselves and their loved ones. Mother Courage, a peddler living amidst the chaos of the Thirty Years War, attempts to keep the daily destruction from devouring her children. The unfolding of this story, set in the 17th century, reminds us how little has changed among humankind in our own violent 21st century.
