WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
In the style of 1960's titillating shock-u-mentaries, Douglas Carter Beane's Mondo Drama takes you on a whirlwind tour of the seedy, the sexy, and the stylish. Witness tribal rights & civilized wrongs!! This comedy is a melting pot of endangered sea turtles, the meaning of the Mona Lisa, adoption, truly independent film making, Satan, ashrams in the Catskills, and transvestites in the meat packing district. Caroline Rhea stars in this world premiere from the author of As Bees In Honey Drown. Christopher Ashley directs.
Begining June 1, the performance schedule is: Monday - Friday at 8pm; Saturday at 7pm and 10pm.

The Drama Dept. production of the latest play by Douglas Carter Beane, artistic director of the company and author of As Bees In Honey Drown and other gems, sparkles with the kitschy charm of a vintage sequin dress. That Mondo Drama is less gem than costume-jewelry is the point: The show invites us to contemplate what's valuable, and why, while bouncing through a trashy landscape of pop culture references and wickedly satiric comedy.
The film sub-genre gleefully sent up by this play is that of those nutty '60s Mondo films sparked by the Italian cult classic Mondo Cane. These flicks achieved their greatest success at drive-in theaters; something like present-day reality movies and TV shows[...]
