Mary Rose, J. M. Barrie's rarely-seen, 1920 play, is being given its first major revival in over 50 years. It is the haunting, lyrical tale of a young woman's disappearance and her mysterious return to her family. Tina Landau directs.

WHAT ARE CRITICS SAYING?

J. M. Barrie's tantalizing drama
Mary Rose was first produced in New York City in 1920 with the popular Ruth Chatterton playing the title role. Its second and most recent local production was in 1951, this time featuring equally admired Patricia Collinge as the central figure. The Vineyard Theatre has decided to give the play another airing, with stage newcomer Paige Howard, the daughter of director/actor Ron Howard, as the fresh-faced, mysterious Mary. The result is genuinely intriguing and entertaining, even if the work has come to resemble a Twilight Zone episode.
