WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Marriage, a play that Gogol subtitles a completely incredible event in two acts, for the infectious charm of his grotesque, vivid, irrepressible characters, and the bright glow of his humanity even as he puts some thoroughly inadequate humans through their farcical paces. A man decides to marry, and employs a matchmaker to find him a wife. Along comes a friend, smarting--perhaps with a certain taste for vengeance--from the recent help of this very matchmaker, and sets about to bring the would-be-bridegroom to the desired happy event. We meet the girl, her aunt, and her other suitors, and our connubial candidate makes his choice. What could be simpler? Just about anything, as we come to learn, because people, well...are people. Appropriate for audiences Junior High and above -- good for families.
