WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Three-time Tony Award nominee Marin Mazzie and Tony Award winner Brian Stokes Mitchell star in the City Center Encores! production of Kismet. Lonny Price directs, with musical direction by Paul Gemignani. The musical has a score by Robert Wright and George Forrest, based on themes by the classical composer Alexander Borodin, and a book by Charles Lederer and Luther Davis, based on the play by Edward Knoblock.

This Arabian Night-style comedy features a lush, romantic score that includes: "And This Is My Beloved," "Stranger in Paradise," and "Baubles, Bangles and Beads." The story takes place within a 24-hour span, during which time a Poet (Mitchell), manages to escape the clutches of a vengeful bandit, drown the evil Wazir of Police, catch the eye of the Wazir's voluptuous wife Lalume (Mazzie), serve as Emir of Baghdad, and see his daughter wed to the handsome Caliph.

As the final notes of the spirited number "Not Since Nineveh" sound, your wish is that Mazzie won't leave the stage for the next two hours. But, alas, the genie does not grant this wish.
