WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Jomama Jones - the legendary expatriate performer kicks off her U.S. comeback and tour with Jomama Jones: Radiate, combining her unique style of song and narrative. Jones' story speaks to the comeback in us all. Through her songs and stories, Jones invites you to share her experiences from a journey into the unknown. Jones' dynamic, emotional and humorous performance transcends mere hope or cynicism as she sets out on her own to seek authenticity, love and strength of soul. Jones' CD, RADIATE will be released in tandem with the show.
Following the January 6th performance of Jomama Jones: Radiate, at 9:00pm will be the first of four FEED events - a moderated discussion between the Radiate creative team and the show's design and production team moderated by Soho Rep Literary and Humanities Manager Raphael Martin. Performing Gender will be the FEED event on January 7th at 9:00pm, a conversation with playwright/actor Taylor Mac (The Lily's Revenge), MilDred Gerestant (the artist formerly known as Dred) and Daniel Alexander Jones in conversation with Djola Branner - associate professor of theatre at Hampshire College. On January 13 at 9:00pm will be Jomama Jones' Record Release Party, a special benefit performance with open bar. Audience members will get a chance to purchase RADIATE - signed exclusively by Ms. Jones and chat about the show. And finally, on January 14 at 9:00pm the question is posed "What is a Diva?" to a quartet including Ms. Jones, Professor Deborah Paredez of the University of Austin, moderator Rich Juwziak (creator of the blog FourFour and a
VH1 journalist) and very special guest Nona Hendrix (one third of the seminal female singing group "Labelle" - best known for their song "Lady
Marmalade.")

RE:Jomama Jones
While diva Jomama Jones Daniel Alexander Jones is breathtaking in both appearance and performance, shes sadly superior to her material which soars and sinks, by turns in "Radiate" now at Soho Rep. Shes backed by the very talented two-woman group,The Sweet Peaches. The choreography, direction, and set are first-rate, making the uneven nature of the divas songs and story, all the more regrettable. The 90-minute performance is backed by a rockin five-piece band.

Jomama Jones: Radiate, now being presented by Soho Rep, may well be the feel good show of the year for the downtown crowd. From the moment that Jomama (Daniel Alexander Jones) takes the stage with The Sweet Peaches (Helga Davis and Sonya Perryman) -- the show is structured as a reunion concert for a fictional soul superstar -- there's an undeniable lightness in the air.
The show alternates between Jomama performing with the Peaches and a five-piece band and chatting with the audience cabaret style about her life, career, and why she decided to leave the country and raise goats in Sweden. During her time abroad, she realizes she needs to come back and connect with her fellow New Yorkers. A[...]
