WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
It's a Bird... It's a Plane... It's Superman, a pop art-flavored sendup of the comic book world, tells the story of the caped hero's efforts to protect Metropolis from an array of villains, including a mad scientist, a megalomaniacal gossip columnist and a mysterious clan of under-employed acrobats. Superman has music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Lee Adams and a book by David Newman and Robert Benton. The original 1966 production, directed by Harold Prince and starring Jack Cassidy, Bob Holiday and Linda Lavin, opened at Alvin Theatre on March 29, 1966, and ran for 129 performances. Superman features the songs "You've Got Possibilities," "You've Got What I Need" and "The Woman for The Man."
