WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Isadora Into the 21st Century premieres two of Artistic Director Lori Belilove's newest choreographic works, breathtaking illustrations of the contemporary application of modern dancer Isadora Duncan's technique. Perfumes of the Night is an abstracted modern Isadora Waltz for four women, set in the smoky perfumed night air of a fantasy cruise to a revised score of "Valse Triste" by Sibelius. Wind Sail is a dance inspired by a friend's voyage of 1000 Days at Sea. The dance examines an individual's determination to sever ties with the material world, the "terra firma", and embrace an Ocean Odyssey of unknown treachery, set to a piano concerto by Michael Nyman. The evening begins with a dramatic interpretation highlighting Isadora's struggle to develop her vision for the dance with performances of Duncan dances (circa 1900-1924) to the music of Chopin, Brahms, Lizst and Scriabin performed live by concert pianist Matthew Ward. Joining in the cast are the "Beliloveables", young Duncan Dancers ages 5-11, representing the newest generation of Duncan dancers carrying the torch of Duncan's legacy into the 21st Century.
