WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Red Rose, by Christine Emmert, is the story of Rosa Luxemberg, the German revolutionary leader, journalist, and socialist theorist, who was killed in Berlin in 1919 during the German revolution. Rosa saw herself as a citizen of the proletariat. Born as a Russian-Jew she became a German citizen through marriage. This one-woman dramatic play examines her life, loves and abrupt demise. This compelling play about a most compelling woman highlights the endurance and fortitude of one of history's profound women leaders. Emmitt Thrower directs.
In Pursuit of Justice, by Wendy Jones, is an award-winning one woman play about Chicago born native Ida B. Wells, performed by Audelco-Award Winning actress Janice Jenkins, who originated the role in NY. This play explores the life and trials of an African-American journalist, who was an active crusader against lynching and a champion of social and political justice for African Americans. Wells actively participated in efforts to gain the vote for women and simultaneously campaigned against racial bigotry within the women's movement. She was a founder of the NAACP although her association with the organization was not always peaceful.
