WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Felix Humble, a Cambridge astro-physicist, returns home to his bee-keeping father's funeral, only to discover his difficult and domineering mother, Flora, in the arms of another man. As Felix struggles to find his balance in the midst of familial chaos, what emerges is a touching, funny and entertaining dysfunctional family portrait. Manhattan Theatre Club presents the American premiere of Humble Boy, a new play by Charlotte Jones, directed by John Caird. The production features Blair Brown, Jared Harris, Paul Hecht, Mary Beth Hurt, Bernie McIrney, and Ana Reeder.

Student tickets are $20 and are on sale the day of the performance (based on availability) up to one hour before showtime. Limit 4 tickets per student with valid ID.

To be or not to be? That is the question Charlotte Jones asks and for which she suggests hopeful answers in the touching, ultimately mesmerizing Humble Boy, a Chekhovian spin on Shakespeare's Hamlet, now on view at Manhattan Theatre Club Stage 1.

Call the comedy-drama Shake-hovian. In it, Felix Humble (Jared Harris), a theoretical physicist preoccupied with the theory of everything, returns to the Cotswolds for his father's funeral. Once he's arrived home and is roaming the lush English garden where his schoolteacher father raised bees, he discovers that his mother, Flora (Blair Brown), has emptied the resident hive; not only that, she's thinking about marrying a businessman called George P[...]
