WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
"The play's the thing wherein I'll catch the conscience of a king," says Shakespeare's Hamlet. This declaration of theater's power to transform its audience encapsulates the essence of Theatre de la Jeune Lune's adaptation. Staged on an elemental set of earth, fire, and water, Hamlet is distilled to its core as a family tragedy, shorn of its political and psychological shadow. Heightening the tension, a silent masked chorus plays witness to the ruins of Elsinore while live, original music punctuates the misfortunes with haunting atmosphere.
