WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Stephen Sondheim and James Goldman's Follies opens the 2007 Encores! season, devoted to the celebration of the Great American Broadway Revue on the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the Ziegfeld Follies. Paul Gemignani serves as musical director. The cast includes Lucine Amara, Christine Baranski, Philip Bosco, Victoria Clark, Michael McGrath, Donna Murphy, and JoAnne Worley.

The musical originally opened on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theatre on April 4, 1971 and was the winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Original Score.

New York City Center Encores! has, since 1994, celebrated the rarely-heard works of America's most important composers and lyricists. Conceived as "concert versions," each Encores! season gives three scores the chance to be heard as originally intended by their creators.

Phyllis is just one fraction of the central quartet of Follies, which features a poignant book by James Goldman (presented here in a truncated form of [...]
