WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Playwrights Horizons celebrates the opening of its new home on the site of its former space at 416 West 42nd Street with a series of concert presentations of four of its classic shows, beginning with six performances of William Finn's Falsettos. Called "A masterly feat of comic storytelling" and "Visionary musical theater" (Variety), the musical follows the exploits of Marvin, a neurotic bisexual who decides to leave his wife and son and begin a new life with his male lover, Whizzer. Complicating matters is the fact that Marvin still wants everyone to be one big happy family. Comprised of March of the Falsettos (1981) and Falsettoland (1990), the full musical opened on Broadway in 1992 and received the 1992 Tony Awards for Best Book (James Lapine) and Best Score (Finn.) The concert production reunites original cast members Michael Rupert, Chip Zien, Alison Fraser, Faith Prince, Heather MacRae, and Janet Metz, with Brent Barrett as Whizzer.
Sunday, January 12 is a benefit performance. All tickets are $150.
