BAM and Barclays Center present Contemporary Color, a performance event created by music icon David Byrne, co-commissioned by BAM and Toronto's Luminato Festival, and inspired by the high school phenomenon of color guard, known as "the sport of the arts."
Ten 20-40 person color guard teams from the US and Canada will perform at Brooklyn's Barclays Center and Toronto's Air Canada Centre, alongside an extraordinary array of musical talent performing live. Contemporary Color is the artistic culmination of Byrne's interest in color guard as a piece of Americana and a competitive art form.
Described by critics as a warm, embracing communal experience, Lonesome Traveler takes audiences on a journey down the rivers and streams of American folk – from the backwoods of Appalachia to the nightclubs of San Francisco and New York. Nine young singer/musicians dramatize key moments in the history of the American folk revival, portraying characters such as The Carter Family, Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, Odetta, Leadbelly, The Kingston Trio and Joan Baez. Along the way, audiences are invited to sing along to classics such as Goodnight, Irene, This Land Is Your Land, Puff the Magic Dragon, Baby Blue, and We Shall Overcome. Weaving together a tapestry of the venues and historic circumstances that put folk at the core of the great changes which swept American society from the 1920s to the 1960s, Lonesome Traveler celebrates the legacy of folk as the soundtrack of social change and moral revolution.

Join co-hosts Leslie Goshko (Huffington Post Comedy) and James Bewley (Dale Radio) as they present an all-new musical salute to spring inspired by the long-running Lawrence Welk television program. Far from a traditional tribute, the hour-long event veers off into unexpected territory as petty jealousies, forbidden passions, and over-sized egos of the cast are revealed.
Bewley, as his alter ego Dale Seever, picks up the celebrated conductor's baton to lead an evening of popular song featuring comedic and theatrical champagne favorites including the D. Seever Orchestra (led by Andrew Bancroft with Chris "Shockwave" Sullivan, Eric Biondo, and Steve O'Reilly), The Reformed Whores, Matteo Lane, Jo Equality Lampert, Shaina Taub, Michael Raine, and Johanna Schlitt.
