WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
A woman journeys into the heart and soul of New York City, encountering mothers and daughters, angels and demons, captains and lovers--all of whom may play a role in her salvation. Eli's Comin' is a new music-theater piece inspired by the music and lyrics of the late legendary singer/songwriter, Laura Nyro.

Laura Nyro is a somewhat lesser-known name among the group of 1960s folk-rockers such as Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell, those musical revolutionaries who helped turn rock into an art form and introduced the concept of the singer-songwriter. Nyro more or less disappeared from the public eye in the 70s but she continued recording sporadically, and her songs have not gone away -- they've been recorded by everyone from Barbra Streisand to Aretha Franklin. Sadly, Nyro died quite young from ovarian cancer, just a few years ago. Eli's Comin', now playing at the Vineyard Theatre, is a joyous and fitting theatrical celebration of her music.
