WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Once upon a time, in the middle of a school, in the middle of Detroit, in the middle of the United States of America, there was a confused teacher and a precocious student. When Dov, an orthodox Jew and Ali, a strict Muslim get caught in a cultural crossfire, both are confronted with the same choice: Will they stand by their beliefs or face the devastating consequences?

Far from a sitcom or buddy movie, Anna Ziegler's effective if less-than-psychologically complex play, Dov and Ali, now at the Cherry Lane Studio under Katherine Kovner's sympathetic direction, focuses on two seemingly different men: Dov (Adam Green), an Orthodox Jew, and Ali (Utkarsh Ambudkar), a strictly-by-the-Koran Muslim, who are respectively an English teacher and student at a Detroit high school.
