WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Transport Group presents the world premiere musical Crossing Brooklyn, featuring
music by Jenny Giering, with book and lyrics by Laura Harrington. Jack Cummings III directs.
In Crossing Brooklyn, Des and AJ are young, idealistic, and in love. Both public school teachers and both bent on changing the world, one kid at a time. Their lives are full of promise and endless possibility until Des begins to unravel. Splitting apart under the strain, Des and AJ struggle to find their way back to each other. The lessons they learn, through the children they meet, will change them forever.
Transport Group is the winner of a special 2007 Drama Desk Award.

It's probably too early in the season to be bandying around the word "best" in regard to new productions. So in lieu of this appellation, I'd like to suggest that the Transport Group's musical at the Connelly Theater, Crossing Brooklyn -- which features a book and lyrics by Laura Harrington and music by Jenny Giering -- is probably the most heartbreaking and deeply felt musical that will be seen in New York during 2007-2008.
The show focuses on A.J. (Bryce Ryness) and Des (Jenny Fellner), a husband and wife coping with the aftermath of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Both are teachers, but while A.J. has returned to his post in a Manhattan grade school, Des has been unable to[...]
