WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
BAM presents the New York premiere of
The Builders Association's Continuous City, directed by Marianne Weems as part of 2008 Next Wave Festival.
A father and daughter struggle to communicate
across continents -- and maintain sanity -- in this new multimedia theater work.
Continuous City moves through a vast cityscape made up of fragments from many different locales -- some real, some virtual, some distant, and some drawn from the very city in which each performance is staged. In addition to video shot on location in Shanghai, Tijuana, Toronto, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles, the work includes site-specific filming unique to each performance venue simultaneously creating a local and global presentation.
THEATER/VENUE INFORMATION:
651 Fulton St
New York, NY 11217
This theater was renamed in honor of the recently-departed BAM founder Harvey Lichenstein. It is a 900-seat, restored and renovated movie house, operated by BAM as an additional auditorium for theater, dance, and music.

The play, written by Harry Sinclair and smoothly directed by Marianne Weems, centers around urban anthropologist Mike Devries (played by Sinclair) -- which is somewhat ironic since he never appears onstage during the course of the performance (although Sinclair did join the rest of the cast for the opening night curtain call). Instead, he is [...]
