WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

West Egg Entertainmen presents Chef's Theater, a new culinary entertainment experience that combines a meal prepared on stage by a celebrity chef with Broadway entertainment. It stars the best chefs from the most popular restaurants in New York and around the world cooking on stage and Broadway performers singing new songs. The songs are by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, Andrew Lippa, and Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich. Stafford Arima directs.

Each evening, the bar will open at 6:30PM. The performance gets underway at 7:30PM with a 3-course meal featuring a star chef demonstrating their process and personal approach to cuisine while cooking a meal for the audience. Giant video monitors will offer close-ups of the preparation. The evening is framed with original songs by Broadway composers about the fun of dining and drinking.

Every week will feature a new chef and a new menu.

o Marcus Samuelsson (Aquavit, Riingo), June 1 - 6
o Legendary French Chef Week
o Jacques Pepin, June 8 and 9
o Alain Sailhac, June 10 and 11
o Andre Soltner , June 12 and 13
o Ed Brown (Sea Grill). June 15 - 20
o Douglas Rodriguez (OLA NY and Miami), June 22 - 27

World-renowned sommeliers including Josh Wesson, Andrea Immer and Steve Olsen will present a wine-tasting with wines selected to best complement the meal. Following the chef¹s performance, the audience will be served the meal they¹ve just watched the chef prepare. The second act is devoted to dessert and includes a show-stopping performance by a Broadway star.

Dessert cabaret performances with Broadway stars (Michael Cavanaugh, Jason Robert Brown, Daphne Rubin Vega, Andrew Lippa, Alice Ripley, and Adam Pascal) take place Fridays and Saturdays at 11:00PM.

WHAT ARE CRITICS SAYING?

Chef's Theater is the title of the new whatsis at The Supper Club. Although the "chef's" part is accurate, the "theater" part really isn't. The show is subtitled "a musical feast" -- and though "feast" is honest enough, there's little here to do with music.

The idea for something that also isn't exactly cabaret is this: Respected chefs are invited for a week to cook a meal and discuss the preparation of it, while performers book-end the proceedings and occasionally interrupt with, well, saucy songs. The concept gives new meaning to the phrase "dinner theater" -- and, for gourmets, that may be very meaningful indeed. For theatergoers, it isn't likely to have much allure.

Maybe the thing to [...]
