WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Musicals in Mufti celebrates the 100th anniversary of Vernon Duke's birth with a revival of Cabin in the Sky. This folk fable is a morality tale that takes place in the rural South. The devout Petunia is praying to The Lord for the sake of her good-for-nothing husband, Little Joe, who has been fatally wounded in a street fight. A reprieve of six months is granted and if Little Joe mends his ways, he may be allowed to enter heaven. Grappling over Little Joe's soul are the Lord's General and The Devil's Son. Grappling with Petunia over Little Joe's material being is the very tempting Sweet Georgia Brown.

The musical includes the classic songs: "Taking A Chance On Love," "Honey In The Honeycomb," "Cabin In The Sky," "Love Turned The Light Out," "It's Not So Bad To Be Good," "Do What You Want To Do," and "The Man Upstairs." Thomas Mills directs, with musical direction by Barbara Anselmi.

Wodehouse musicals in which song and story had at least a nodding acquaintance; as such it's a grandfather to modern musicals, its influence stretching at least as far as early Sondheim. But Cabin in th[...]
