The York Theatre Company will present the New York premiere of Cagney, a new musical featuring a book by Peter Colley and music and lyrics by Robert Creighton and Christopher McGovern. The score of original numbers is augmented by George M. Cohan songs.

Cagney tells the story of legendary stage and screen star James Cagney, following the actor from his humble beginnings in New York City's Lower East Side through his rise as a vaudeville song-and-dance man to his superstardom in Hollywood.

Directed by Bill Castellino with choreography by Joshua Bergasse and music direction by Matt Perri, Creighton will star in the title role. Jeremy Benton, Danette Holden, Bruce Sabath, Josh Walden, and Ellen Zolezzi complete the six-person cast.

The creative team includes James Morgan (sets), Amy Clark (costumes), Brian Nason (lighting), Janie Bullard (sound), and Mark Pirolo (projections).

Performances will begin May 19 in advance of a May 28 opening and will run through June 21.
