Meet the Tin Man and the Cast of The Woodsman

The acclaimed drama returns to the stage this winter.

The cast and creative team of The Woodsman, a drama inspired by the backstory of L. Frank Baum's famous Tin Man character, met the press at their rehearsal studio on January 13. The production begins performances January 27 at New World Stages — Stage 5, with opening night set for February 8.

Written by James Ortiz and directed by Ortiz and Claire Karpen, the play, which features music by Edward W. Hardy and lyrics by Jennifer Loring, tells the story of the lonely Tin Woodsman of Oz, who must embark on a journey to protect the love of his life from the evil Wicked Witch of the East. The work premiered at 59E59 Theaters in January 2014 and played a return engagement at the venue in January 2015.

The cast includes Benjamin Bass, Devin Dunne Cannon, Will Gallacher, Alex J. Gould, Amanda A. Lederer, Aaron McDaniel, Lauren Nordvig, James Oritz, Eliza Simpson, Meghan St. Thomas, and Sophia Zukoski. The creative team includes James Ortiz (set and puppet design), Molly Seidel (costume design), Carol Uraneck (original costume design), Catherine Clark and Jamie Roderick (lighting design), Devin Dunne Cannon (associate director), Will Gallacher (movement coordinator), Aaron McDaniel (fight director), and Naomi Florin (music director & violinist).
Robb Nanus, Rachel Sussman, Ryan Bogner, and Adam Silberman produce the work, which was originally presented and developed by Strangemen & Co.
