Roundabout Theatre Company will present the first-ever New York revival of Alfred Uhry and Robert Waldman’s musical comedy The Robber Bridegroom as part of the 50th anniversary season. The production, which will run at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre, will feature direction by Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher) and choreography by Connor Gallagher.

Based on the short story by beloved Southern writer Eudora Welty, The Robber Bridegroom takes place at the Natchez Trace in Mississippi. It follows Jamie Lockhart, fair-faced gentleman by day, hardhearted bandit of the woods by night, as his world is turned upside down after he falls for the beautiful daughter of a wealthy planter. The Robber Bridegroom will star Steven Pasquale (The Bridges of Madison County) as Jamie Lockhart.

The creative team will include Donyale Werle (sets), Emily Rebholz (costumes), Howell Binkley (lights), and Darron L. West (sound).

Roundabout Theatre Company’s 2016 production of The Robber Bridegroom marks the 40th anniversary of the original, which opened on Broadway in 1975 and starred Kevin Kline and Patti LuPone. The show went on to enjoy an unprecedented hit return engagement on Broadway the following year, with Barry Bostwick winning the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical.

The Robber Bridegroom benefits from Roundabout’s Musical Theatre Fund with lead gifts from the Howard Gilman Foundation and Perry and Marty Granoff.
