The Public Theater Announces Public Studio Season

Two new plays join the initiative’s third season.

The Public Theater has announced the lineup for its third season of Public Studio, which will present two new plays this spring by emerging and up-and-coming playwrights. The plays will run in succession in the Public’s Shiva Theater and be presented as pared-down productions with a ticket price of $10.

The first production will be Pretty Hunger, written by Patricia Ione Lloyd and directed by Martha Banta. Performances will run from March 10-19. The cast features Tony Gonzalez (Bette Davis Dancer), Meredith Holzman (Tammy), Mel Johnson Jr. (Old Black Man), Maurice Jones (James), Martin LaPlatney (Old Jew), Matthew Steffens (Bette Davis Dancer), David Turner (Bette Davis), and Kara Young (Lea).

The second show, Teenage Dick, is set to run from March 24-April 2. The play is written by Mike Lew and directed by Tony nominee Moritz von Stuelpnagel (Hand to God). Originally commissioned by the Apothetae Theatre Company, the cast of Teenage Dick will feature Apothetae member Shannon DeVido (Buck) and Apothetae artistic director Gregg Mozgala (Richard). Complete casting will be announced at a later date.
