Primary Stages has announced casting for the first two shows of its 2017-18 season, Scott Carter's The Gospel According to Thomas Jefferson, Charles Dickens, and Count Leo Tolstoy: Discord and Kate Hamill's adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

In Carter's play, making its New York premiere in a production directed by Kimberly Senior, Duane Boutté (Parade) will play Charles Dickens, Michael Laurence (Talk Radio) will be Thomas Jefferson, and Thom Sesma (Pacific Overtures) takes on Leo Tolstoy. Discord will run from September 19-October 22, with opening night on October 1. It "finds three of history’s most famous men, all of whom wrote their own version of the gospels, debating everything from religion to literature to marriage."

The cast that is currently performing Pride and Prejudice at its ongoing run at the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival will return to the Cherry Lane Theatre stage for the Primary Stages production, directed by Amanda Dehnert, from November 7-December 15, with opening night on November 19. In addition to Hamill herself (Vanity Fair) as Lizzy, the cast will include Mark Bedard (TV's The Knick) as Wickham, Miss Bingley, and Mr. Collins; Kimberly Chatterjee (The Christians) as Lydia and Lady Catherine; Jason O'Connell (Sense & Sensibility) as Mr. Darcy; Amelia Pedlow (The Liar) as Jane and Miss De Bourgh; Chris Thorn (The Big Broadcast on East 53rd) as Charlotte Lucas and Mr. Bennet; John Tufts (Fashions for Men) as Bingley and Mary; and Nance Williamson (Romeo and Juliet) as Mrs. Bennet.
