The New York Musical Festival Announces 2016 Gala Award Winners

The New York Musical Festival (NYMF) has announced the recipients of their 2016 Awards, which were preseted at this year's Gala at the The Edison Ballroom. The November 13 event was hosted by Mo Rocca.

The NYMF/Stage Rights Publishing Award was given to A Scythe of Time, featuring a book by Alan Harris, with music and lyrics by Mark Alan Swanson; Erik Johnke (book and lyrics) and David Wolfson (music) received the NYMF Developmental Reading Series Award for Play Like a Winner, and the new NYMF BETA Award was presented to Freedom Riders by Richard Allen and Taran Gray (music and lyrics) and Richard Allen (book).

As the recipient of the NYMF/Stage Rights Publishing Award, A Scythe of Time will join the theatrical publishing catalogue of Steele Spring Stage Rights and will now be available to professional and amateur companies throughout the United States and the world.

Having received the NYMF Developmental Reading Series Award and NYMF BETA Award, Play Like a Winner and Freedom Riders will each receive automatic acceptance into NYMF’s Next Link Project next season, as well as a $5,000 subsidy towards their participation, entrepreneurial training and networking opportunities. The writers also benefit from several months of ongoing dramaturgical support from NYMF’s Programming Department.
