Musicals Tonight has announced casting for its production of Funny Face, opening its season at the Lion Theatre in the Theatre Row Studios complex. Performances are set to run from October 18-30

The 1927 musical is composed by George Gershwin, with lyrics by Ira Gershwin, and a book by Fred Thompson and Paul Gerard Smith. The story follows Jimmy Reeve, the legal guardian of his adoptive parents’ three daughters — Frankie, Dora, and June. Frankie, the naughtiest of the three girls, has her diary confiscated by Jimmy because of its slanderous content, so she schemes with Peter, a playboy/aviator to retrieve the diary from Jimmy’s safe, in which he has also placed Dora’s, valuable jewels. Before Peter and Dora’s beau, Dugsie, can break into the safe, it is opened by bungling burglers Chester and Herbert. But instead of taking the jewels, the crooks accidentally take the diary, while Peter and Dugsie take the envelope with the jewels.

The cast stars Patrick Graver as Jimmy, along with Jessica Ernest (Frankie), Caitlin Wilayto (Dora), Whitney Winfield (June), Seth Danner (Peter), Blake Spellacy (Dugsie), Bill Bateman (Chester), Edward Tolve (Herbert), and Doug Jabara (Police Sergeant). Rounding out the ensemble are Christian Brown, Kacie Burns, Caleb Dicke, Giulia Dunes, Briana Fallon, Parker Krug, Andrea Weinzierl, and Kyle White.

Funny Face originally starred Fred Astaire and his sister Adele, and features a number of classic Gershwin tunes including " 'S Wonderful," "My One and Only," "He Loves and She Loves," and more.

Casey Colgan directs and choreographs the Musicals Tonight production, alongside music director and vocal arranger James Stenborg.
